35th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival

One of the largest free jazz events in the USA, the Atlanta Jazz Festival features

36th Annual Goombay Festival

The Goombay Festival one of Miami’s most flamboyant events, it’s arguably the
largest black heritage festival in the United States. Every June, some 300,000
visitors fill the streets of Miami’s Coconut Grove during the Miami Goombay
Festival. The Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival turns Coconut Grove’s Grand
Avenue into Miami’s answer to Nassau’s Bay Street.

Aside from being a lot of fun, the Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival is a colorful
celebration of culture. The annual Miami street festival takes its name from a kind
of goatskin drum as well as the music of The Bahamas, a blend of African and
European musical influences. Equally entertaining are the Junkanoo groups that
dance in the streets, with accompaniment provided by such instruments as drums,
whistles and cowbells. The Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival also offers arts,
crafts and food provided by more than 300 vendors.

10th Annual Battle of The Bands

The competition will heat up in the Georgia Dome as the best marching bands from
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) bring their top performances
to showcase in front of their throngs of fans. There will not only be incredible music
performances by the bands, but also smooth choreography that is unique to each
unit. Each school will receive several thousand dollars towards their scholarship
funds, no matter if they "win" the final competition.

There will also be a HBCU Recruitment Fair earlier in the day of the 28th at the GA
World Congress Center between 10AM and 2PM; it is a great opportunity for

34th Annual Calle Ocho Festival

One week each March, Miami transforms itself into a traditional Latin street festival.
Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street) becomes the scene of Carnaval as over a million

Southern Decadence started numerous years ago as a simple going-away party
as a top gay Labor Day Weekend destination and has evolved into one of our
world's major annual events.  One of the largest annual celebrations in New
Orleans, it has become known as the "Gay Mardi Gras."  People begin to arrive on
the Wednesday before Labor Day, and generally don't even think about stopping
or going home until the following Tuesday.  With over 100,000 GLBT (gay, lesbian,
bisexual and transgender) participants, and an economic impact estimated to be in
excess of $100 million,  the city has recognized its importance with an Official
Proclamation to welcome the event.

DecaFest, is a five-day series of events that runs concurrent with Southern
Decadence and represents the more serious cultural side of the annual GLBT
celebration in New Orleans. It’s a joyful occasion for locals and visitors to share
and learn about the GLBT culture in New Orleans and throughout history.
DecaFest is entertainment – theatre, music, comedy, film and related artistic
endeavors.

It is also about the writers, scholars and collectors of GLBT culture who chronicle
and protect the GLBT legacy and offer encouragement to those still adjusting to an

costume contest. DecaFest a charitable event specializing in raising funds for

45th Annual West Indian American Day Parade & Carnival

Louisiana Swamp Festival
November 3-4, 2012

Swamp Fest celebrates Louisiana Cajun culture and heritage through education
and entertainment. This family-oriented festival gives visitors insights into the
Cajun way of life through cultural demonstrations, music, food and crafts. The
weekend salute to Louisiana's Bayou country at the Zoo features hands-on
encounters with live Louisiana swamp animals and special animal feedings. Swamp
Fest is free with Zoo admission. Audubon Zoo members are admitted free.

Music will be featured aplenty on three stages at the Swamp Fest, with both new
sounds and old standards. Swamp Fest-goers can taste the local flavor in the main
festival area of the Zoo with time-tested Cajun favorites. Some dishes you can try
are Shrimp & Crabmeat Gumbo, Spinach & Crawfish Bread Bowl, Gator Burgers,
Soft-shell Crab Po-Boy, Alligator Sauce Picante, Jambalaya and much, much more.

Mendocino Wine & Mushroom Festival

Are We Having Fungi Yet? Northern California's Mendocino County is an
internationally renowned wine terroir—and when the autumn rains hit, the region
comes alive with wild mushrooms. The Wine & Mushroom Festival welcomes that
happy annual invasion with mushroom-themed menus in area restaurants, a
serene kayak tour of wild fungi along the Noyo River, and wine tastings held on a
vintage steam locomotive that winds through the towering redwoods. Take a
seminar to help you spot each mushroom variety, including the maple-flavored

performances, exhibits, and guided mushroom walks are among the activities

Congo Square Rhythms Festival at Armstrong Park

From these hypnotic African rhythms and other strains of music that filtered into
New Orleans in the late 1800s came the musical art form now known as Jazz.
Today that colorful African heritage is celebrated in the same locale, in Congo
Square, which is now a section of Louis Armstrong Park in the 900 block of North
Rampart Street, nine blocks above Canal Street and opposite the French Quarter.
The festival is FREE and opens at 11 a.m. For more information on the Congo
